Brad at GrillGrate sent me a set of their grill toppers to try out. I've already tried a few different products and mostly been disappointed: The cast iron turned into a solid lump of rust, even though I was being pretty careful; the non-stick stuck hard the first time I used it and the surface peeled when I tried to clean it; the disposable aluminum ones stuck to the food even though I brushed them with bacon fat. The only thing that I've been happy with is my stainless steel grill topper. A … [Read more...]
How To Make Chocolate Chip Banana Bread
June 24, 2010 (Updated March 20, 2014) by
This banana bread recipe is another one from the 1949 Ohio State Grange Cook Book. Like the others we've tried, this is much less sweet than other recipes I've tried, and I like it that way. You can add chocolate chips (like we did) or frosting and it won't become overly sweet. … [Read more...]
How To Make Braised Spareribs

What does "Pro" mean? First, I need to explain something about "Pro" tools: Usually if they have to tell you it's the pro line, it's not something you'll see professionals using. How To Make Cocanes
June 17, 2010 (Updated March 20, 2014) by
You never know what you're going to find when you look through really old cookbooks. This time the recipe is pretty normal ... but the name. Are you kidding me? Did they not know what that sounded like? If you don't believe me, here's a picture of the original recipe in the Ohio State Grange cookbook. Name aside, how are they? I like them, but you should understand that I don't like things as sweet as most people seem to. That's why I rarely eat candy or pastries. When someone brings … [Read more...]
