Fruit Smoothie with the Ninja

I already mentioned the Ninja Master Prep once before. And when I said it was good for prepping food, I wasn’t kidding.

But I’ve got to tell you, this thing is absolutely replacing my blender when it comes to making frozen drinks. I can’t think of anything I’d rather use the blender for. Except … well, I like the stainless steel base and the heavy-duty glass jar. So it looks a bit more “grown up” when it’s out on the counter. Seriously, what were they thinking calling this the “Ninja Master Prep”?

So I’ll just keep it back in the kitchen when I make the frozen drinks. I can live with that.

Ingredients

1 pound frozen berries (any kind)
1 banana, slightly over-ripe
1/2 cup vanilla whole-milk yogurt
1/2 cup milk (plus more, see below)

Directions

Usually I have to remember to take the berries out to thaw a little before making a smoothie. Not now. Just toss them in still frozen.

Add the banana. Over-ripe is better, because it’s sweeter. If yours is still bright yellow and sort of hard, add a couple of tablespoons of sugar.

Add the yogurt and milk.

A couple pulses, and about 30 seconds later it’s done.

I could tell looking at it that this was still pretty thick.

But I poured it out anyway.

The wife and kids each got their own, and I snapped the lid on to keep the rest for breakfast the next morning.

Please ignore the water spots on the cups.

These were a bit too thick for their taste, so I poured it all back in, added some more milk and pulsed it again. Perfect.

The next morning it had thinned out even more. I think the frozen berries had turned it into a milkshake.

Okay, I’ve got two more things I want to show you with the Ninja, then I’m done talking about it. (Just be glad you’re not visiting. I’m still like, “Oh hey, want a drink? Let me show you this new thing I got …”)

Your smoothies look A LOT BETTER than the ones they prepared on Survivor last night. Shudder, shudder!

I haven't seen your new toy at Wal-mart yet.

    Is it easy to clean?

Linda, I didn't know that was still on.

Ali, for me this replaces the blender, and does a really good job as a food processor. It doesn't have the attachments for slicing cucumbers, but I'd rather get a mandolin slicer for that anyway.

Amy, I'm not a fan of the strawberry. That's why there are only three glasses.

Jean, all dishwasher safe except the motor. It takes a little while for the top to dry completely so you can put it away though.

Drew, you should try making a green smoothie. Look for green smoothie girl on youtube. You can get like 8 salads worth of greens in one blender. They seriously taste really good.

Yeah, I really should do that. Green smoothies have the whole alfalfa-and-sprouts reputation, but there's no reason I shouldn't be able to put all my favorite salad fixings in there and get something good. I'll give that a shot.

    About those water spots…. ;)

We love smoothies, although we don't make them nearly as often as we should. We should prolly try to remedy that.
