Cool Detail at the West Side Market

I’ve written about the West Side Market before. I love the old style architecture, from a time when public spaces were expected to do more than just hold the roof up.

But as many times as I’ve been there, I never noticed the detail above before. I was already on my way out with the kids when I noticed this, so I didn’t have time to check out the rest of them, but they were on all the columns.

Next time I go, I’ll make time to shoot all of them.

Michael Simon (Food Network star) did a piece for your market… I love historical buildings.

Yeah, old school architecture is the bomb. I love going into Boston and checking out all the Colonial and 19th/early 20th century buildings. Providence had some good ones too.

Barb, I just checked out Symon’s blog, and he’s talking about cheeze wiz on cheesesteaks. Small world.

Bob, I’ve only been to Boston once, and it was really a drive-through. At about 100 mph. (No, I wasn’t driving.)

I love this. I’m originally from Cleveland (suburb, actually) and worked at Lutheran Hospital on West 25th Street for a few years. I spent a lot of time at the West Side Market.

Now I live in Glasgow, Scotland and I miss Cleveland more than I thought I would – especially the West Side Market. So, thank you for posting this picture.

I can’t imagine living in Glasgow and missing Cleveland. But hey, glad I could help.

I was just in Cleveland a couple weeks ago and went to the West Side Market – love that place. Really enjoy your blog, thanks!

I suppose no matter where you end up in the world you always miss “home”. Plus, it’s hard not to miss such a great market!!

Kacie, first visit or coming home?

Allison, it’s easier to not miss when “home” is a generic suburb. I started traveling the day after graduation, and there are now probably a half-dozen cities I know better than the one I grew up near.
