The teen likes to eat just as much as I like to cook. I figured it’s time for her to learn her way around the kitchen.
She loves when I make hash on the weekend. Whatever meat is left over from the last few nights’ dinners, and some potatoes or beans and we’re good to go.
Ingredients
leftover BBQ chicken
baked potatoes
Cajun seasoning
Directions
Chop up the chicken and potatoes into bite-sized pieces. Melt a couple of tablespoons of bacon fat in a pan. (Use olive oil or peanut oil if you don’t have bacon fat.)
Season with the Cajun seasoning and heat the chicken and potatoes, tossing frequently.
And that’s it.
Great job, Drew! My mom made sure that I could handle a knife and to cook for myself when I was young. Its our “job” to pass down this knowledge to the “young-uns”.
Way to go, Winnie. And Winnie’s dad. It’s important to know how to cook, because then you can feed yourself really, really good food. And maybe other people too, if they’re nice to you.
I don’t remember ever getting an actual lesson in cooking or knife skills from my parents , but I was in charge of dinner a few nights a week from the time I was about 13, so I guess I learned by experience. Those first meals were, um, not very good. Twenty years later, however, I’m a really good cook. So, you know, it gets easier, Winnie.
