How To Make Turkey Hash

The heavenly aroma still hung in the house. But it was gone, all gone! No turkey! No turkey sandwiches! No turkey salad! No turkey gravy! Turkey Hash! Turkey a la King! Or gallons of turkey soup! Gone, ALL GONE!

Did someone say turkey hash?

For years I’ve been hearing that speech and thinking turkey hash would be a good idea. Now I can confirm: It’s a very good idea. Basically the same as corned beef hash, but with turkey instead.

Just dice up your leftover turkey, and a potato or two, and some onion if you like.

Melt some bacon fat in a pan and put the potatoes in, along with some salt and pepper.

Stir them around a bit over medium heat until cooked all the way through, then add the turkey (and onion, if you’re using it).

Toss everything together while the turkey re-heats.

And that’s it. A delicious breakfast in no time.

I could leave it at that, but that last shot really looks better as video.

Yumm.

    Hey ohiofarmgirl,

You’ll shoot your eye out, kid! ;)

A Christmas Story is one of my favorite movies of all time, but I never considered making the turkey hash. I’ll have to try it the next time we have turkey!

    Hi Drew!
I love turkey hash, yum! Anywho…I was just wondering, do you have a video and/or tutorial on how to do that flippy thing with the pan (where you flip stuff without using a spatula)? Every time I’ve tried it, food goes EVERYWHERE. Thanks!

Laura, not yet, but that’s a great idea.

Last year I made Creamed Turkey & Biscuits. This year, I didn’t have enough turkey left over. :)

Also, my sister (who does not get “A Christmas Story”) got me the deluxe set of “A Christmas Story” that came with a cookie tin & cutters, “A Christmas Story” Monopoly and a Leg Lamp ornament. And my son got his BB gun 3 years ago.

We have Turkey hash every year after Thanksgiving and I have even just made it other times with Chicken. We add corn to our hash and eat it with ketchup. So, so, so good! I look forward to having it at least once or twice a year. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for a great site. I wish I had noted a few more of my grandmother’s recipes, which were really all in her mind. I have tried to recreate them but not always with success. Our local University is planning on restarting their home ec program to get people cooking again and I think your site will help too.

Love you Drew, love the site, but I’m starting to not like Turkey Hash. Every few days for the past 3 months, all I have seen is Turkey Hash. I hope you hurry up with the new stuff.

I was inspired last night and used this recipe as the basis for a bit of fridge clearing. Started some onions to sweating and dusted the potatoes with Montreal Steak Seasoning. Then we chopped up and added the left over Peking Duck from Golden Budha and the last bits of a grilled chicken from Ranch Market. Topped with fried eggs and toast on the side. Yummy! Thanks for the idea Drew!
