Would You Come To Pittsburgh To Cook With Me?

I may have an opportunity to do a cooking class in Pittsburgh. The agenda would probably be something like:

  • Friday — Check in to hotel. Meet for dinner / drinks at a local restaurant. (Probably Church Brew Works & Restaurant.)
  • Saturday morning — Breakfast, then a trip to farmers market and / or wholesale food suppliers to get provisions for lunch and dinner. Back to classroom / kitchen to make lunch.
  • Saturday afternoon — Presentation(s) from kitchenware manufacturer(s). Then class on making (and eating) full course dinner.
  • Saturday night — Excursion to Station Square and The Incline.
  • Sunday morning — Brunch and depart.

I can’t say much about pricing until I have an idea how many people would be interested, and what kind of group rates I could get.

So how about it? Does this sound like something you might be interested in?

If Pittsburg weren't so FAR AWAY from Texas, I would be the first in line. That sounds like an amazing weekend!!

Wow, Drew! More details, please! Are you inviting all of us (your followers) to jump on a plane and fly to Pittsburgh, spend the weekend with you attending a class taught by you? I realize you need a head count for pricing, but you could price out for 10, 20, 30 to get an idea… when do you want to do this is also a major concern (everyone will now be getting ready for the holidays)… January/February is WINTER in Pittsburgh! Yikes!
But, yea, I'd love to do something like this! [from Delaware]

Hey Drew…Would love to if it was closer to the West Coast! Let me know if you ever decide to do this out west. It sounds like a blast!

I've got a change jar going… You've got me tempted to dump it out and see if I have enough money for a trip to Pittsburg. If I don't, could I contribute to a webcast investment for you?

I'd be interested, but I couldn't give a firm commitment without details, of course. But it sure sounds like fun!

Ummm, only if you give me enough time to make my item for you… and perhaps hand deliver it.

Hmm… sounds very interesting! I'd be more interested in details… to see if I could swing it or not. This Stay-At-Home Mom isn't always able to do the things she likes… and I'd LOVE to do this one!

I'm interested! My Pittsburgh native-ness is a bonus.

It is something I would LOVE to do if budget, time and distance weren't problems. I'd need more details and planning time.

Now that I'm so much closer to Pittsburgh (VA versus MI), it sounds a lot more plausible. I'm definitely interested!

Okay, so it looks like there's enough interest to at least run down the costs for it. I'll do the research and let you know what the pricing will look like.

Cooking used to be all about making food that tasted good. But somewhere along the way, we seem to have decided the diet-of-the-week was more important. How to Cook Like Your Grandmother is a return to recipes and techniques that are based on what tastes good, not on junk science and fad diets. You won't find the words lite, low, lean, free or skim anywhere. This is all real food, cooked the way Grandma would have done it.

People have been making and eating food as long as there have been people. And food. But somehow we've let ourselves believe that it's something only experts can do "right". That's where Starting From Scratch comes in. I'm not saying you'll go from zero to hero just by reading it, but at least now you'll know what those self-proclaimed experts are talking about.
