The New Book is Almost Ready

Well, it was faster than the first one, but this is still a very long process. But it’s done. Which means I’ve ordered my proof copy, and as soon as it comes in and I give it one more look to make sure everything is lined up okay, it’s ready to order.

What am I talking about?

In case you missed it, this book came about in response to the free online cooking class I offered. (You can still sign up for it that using that link, or the form at the right of the blog.) I wrote the lessons based on what I thought new cooks would want to know. At the end of the class I ask what you want to know, that I left out.

The answers were a bit surprising. They also covered areas that I didn’t think I knew well enough to be teaching them to other people. So I reached out to a few people with more experience in those areas:

Putting it all together was a blast. I learned a ton from everybody along the way. Reading everything at least seven or eight times does that to you. It’s gotten to the point there are parts that I can’t even remember if I wrote them or someone else. (That’s why I included an author reference in the back.)

Early Notice

If you haven’t already gotten the sample chapter, go get it now. When I finish reviewing my proof copy, I’m going to announce it first to the people who got the sample chapter. You’ll have a chance to pre-order it for a reduced rate, and I’ll randomly pick five people from the pre-orders to get a special bonus in exchange for giving me a review.

Oh, by the way, I saw this great line today:

When anyone laughs at your book, just say “ok, where is yours?” Then when they start to make up some excuse for not having one, hit them in the face (with your book).

If you're the "rap" I think you are … have you had time to read it yet?

I'm on my way to getting the sample chapter, but I do want to say the cover is hilarious! Your facial expressions are just perfect.

I was going to say the same thing as the person above did. I love the cover. I would have to get it just because of you facial expressions. I am looking forward to getting my own copy. Can't wait.
    Congratulations.

Cooking used to be all about making food that tasted good. But somewhere along the way, we seem to have decided the diet-of-the-week was more important. How to Cook Like Your Grandmother is a return to recipes and techniques that are based on what tastes good, not on junk science and fad diets. You won't find the words lite, low, lean, free or skim anywhere. This is all real food, cooked the way Grandma would have done it.

People have been making and eating food as long as there have been people. And food. But somehow we've let ourselves believe that it's something only experts can do "right". That's where Starting From Scratch comes in. I'm not saying you'll go from zero to hero just by reading it, but at least now you'll know what those self-proclaimed experts are talking about.
