How To Make Maple Glaze

This one is really quick and easy, and works on so many fall favorites: sweet breads like banana or zucchini, pies, cakes, donuts. Pretty much anything that you would normally put a frosting or glaze on.

Ingredients

1 cup powdered sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla
1-2 tablespoons maple syrup (see note below)
1 tablespoon milk

Directions

Combine all the ingredients over low heat.

Stir until smooth. If it’s too thick, add a little more milk. Check the taste and adjust as needed. We added more syrup.

NOTE: Don’t do this with “maple flavored” syrup. If you’re going to use something that’s mostly corn syrup anyway, just buy a can of pre-made frosting.

You’ll have to pour it over whatever you’re frosting pretty quickly. It starts to solidify almost immediately.

Tomorrow I’ll be back with the recipe for that apple cake we’re frosting.

That looks so amazing I might just eat the glaze like it's soup.

Good luck with that. It starts to set up about 5 seconds after you take it off the heat.

Any idea how many cups or ounces of apples – I have some smaller baking apples I would like to use. Thanks! Looks fabulous!

That's half the fun of using really old family recipes. This one said "7 apples". We took 7 of what we had on hand and went with that. Good luck!

Andrea, did you use real maple syrup, or maple-flavored syrup? The maple-flavored stuff us mostly corn syrup with a bit of artificial flavor in it. That’s the only thing I can think of.
