World Domination!

Okay, maybe I’m overselling it a bit.

I just had my first TV appearance. They don’t have the webcast up yet, but it should appear shortly. UPDATE: Fox has redesigned their website, and trimmed the video archive drastically. I need to see if I can find a tape of it somewhere and put up my own copy. Grrrr.

So that’s book, blog, radio, TV … I guess I need to be in a movie next. Let’s see … The Grape Leaves of Wrath … Cookout at the OK Corral … The Bakers Dozen … American Pie. Time to find an agent.

If you’re here for the chocolate truffle pie recipe, you can see the original — along with step-by-step directions — right here.

Dude, those old ladies LOVED you. They were GIGGLING at you. Who knew you were such a charmer?

You done good, Drew. You’re destined for great things.

P.S. Have you ever seen “American Pie”? They do dirty, dirty things to apple pie in that movie. You do not want to be in that movie unless you’re ready to go R-rated.

Eh, they’d already killed most of that bottle of wine by the time I was on. “It’s noon somewhere, right?”

As for the movie, you realize The Dirty Dozen was about a bunch of convicts killing Nazis, right? But we get offended because some guy really really loves apple pie.

That was a great segment, Drew! It went very smooth, and you seemed right at home. My god that pie looks good.

I would like some pie, please. I ate all of my broccoli salad (and will make more tonight, I believe!) Loved the segment — sound quality wasn’t very good so I was leaning over my laptop to hear it. Looks like you had a lot of fun! I hope you are a repeater.

Congrats Drew! Hope you will be invited back to do some more, looked like a lot of fun :) So who got to eat the pie???

I couldn’t hear it very well so will try to watch it again later tonight with headphones on :)

    One word Drew: Sweeeet!

And I don’t mean the pie! Congrats on your silver screen debut!

So professional! So personable! I’d be glad to have you in my house any time! And I’d even cook for you, that’s saying something.

It’s quite apparent that you can do ANYTHING you want to. Congratulatulation!

Drew, you were awesome! I know that's cliched, but after hearing my 6 & 2 year old sons say it, I think it's the best word out there.
Anyway, from down here in Texas it looked great. I loved the comment about the cocktail peanuts & Dewar's. I have a feeling my kids will say similar things about my mom, not the Dewar's, but rather the lack of cooking. She thinks chutney on a brick of cream cheese with wheat crackers is high end appetizers.

Melissa, I’ve been practicing on all of you for a year.

Trixie, I think I’ll be back. Unless they just ask everyone to come back.

Amanda, the crew and other guests ate the finished one during the show. The one I made live had just gone into the freezer, and was still there when I left. I told them I’ll pick up my pie plate next time I’m on.

Sweet Bird, I thought “silver screen” was movies? But hey, give me another year and we’ll see.

PT, where’s your house? And do I get to pick what you make? :-)

Taylor, aw shucks, now I’m blushing.

Stephanie, that’s hilarious. Someone in our family just rediscovered their former favorite appetizer: marmalade on a brick of cream cheese with wheat crackers. I’m not saying it tasted bad or anything, but come on. Favorite?

Yeah, you’ve never seen American Pie at all… At any rate, “one time at band camp…”

  13. Posted January 23, 2009 at 11:41 am | Permalink

Oh, I’ve seen it — and I’ve been to band camp, for what it’s worth. But really, is what he did so much more horrible than concentration camps and Nazis? Really? (Okay, getting way off topic for a cooking blog here.)

Well done, Drew. Professionally accomplished your goal… Witty and entertaining, charming, knowledgeable. And you could still work with someone so into your personal space! I know I could not do this!
    Your daughters are adorably cute!

Barb, it actually reminded me of working at the restaurant in college. Not nearly enough space, and people right up next to you. The looking over my shoulder was unexpected, though.

Cooking used to be all about making food that tasted good. But somewhere along the way, we seem to have decided the diet-of-the-week was more important. How to Cook Like Your Grandmother is a return to recipes and techniques that are based on what tastes good, not on junk science and fad diets. You won't find the words lite, low, lean, free or skim anywhere. This is all real food, cooked the way Grandma would have done it.

People have been making and eating food as long as there have been people. And food. But somehow we've let ourselves believe that it's something only experts can do "right". That's where Starting From Scratch comes in. I'm not saying you'll go from zero to hero just by reading it, but at least now you'll know what those self-proclaimed experts are talking about.
